Currencies and conversions
Understand how FastSpring displays, converts, and manages currencies for global buyers.
FastSpring supports a wide range of currencies so you can sell globally while maintaining consistent reporting and payouts. Your base currency is the store’s default for product configuration, while transaction currencies are the currencies buyers see and pay in during checkout.
At checkout, FastSpring automatically displays localized currencies and payment methods, then converts all transactions back to your base currency for reporting and payouts.
The sections below explain how currencies work in FastSpring, how to configure available currencies, and how automatic conversions and markups are applied. Select a section or use the TOC on the right to jump ahead.

- If a transaction currency is disabled, buyers in that region will see prices in your base currency.
- Some payment methods are not available in all currencies.
Select available currencies for your store
Configure your store settings to decide which transaction currencies to accept. This gives you flexibility to sell globally or limit sales to a smaller set of currencies.
To update your settings in the FastSpring app:
- Go to Settings > Store Settings > Localization.
- Under Available Currencies, select the checkboxes for the currencies you want to accept.
- Click Save. Changes may take up to 10 minutes to appear in live checkouts.
Note: To override currency and language settings for a specific checkout, see
Currencies and language settings for more information.
Country default currencies and languages
FastSpring automatically assigns a default currency and language based on the buyer’s country. If the default transaction currency is disabled, FastSpring uses your base currency.
See the full list of defaults: Default currencies and languages.
Base currencies
Your base currency is the foundation for pricing, reporting, and payouts. All customer payments convert from the buyer’s transaction currency into your store’s base currency.
Note: If you disable a transaction currency in your store, FastSpring applies your base currency to orders from the associated regions.
Available base currencies include:
| Currency | Code |
|---|---|
| Australian Dollar | AUD |
| Canadian Dollar | CAD |
| Euro | EUR |
| British Pound | GBP |
| Japanese Yen | JPY |
| US Dollar | USD |
Update your base currency
Contact FastSpring Support to request a base currency change.
After we update your currency, FastSpring converts transactions based on the rates of your base currency. All transactions will convert to your base currency. However, FastSpring converts sales to report in USD. These may be converted a second time if you receive payouts in a non-USD currency.
Automatic currency conversion
When you configure products, you can apply a unique price for each currency that your store supports. This can help account for tax rates if you use Gross Pricing Mode.
If you do not apply prices for additional currencies, FastSpring automatically converts your base currency price, and displays the localized price to your customers. FastSpring will convert this price back to your store’s currency before issuing your payout.
Markup rates
If a customer uses a major currency at checkout (AUD, CAD, CHF, DKK, EUR, GBP, HKD, JPY, NZD, SEK, SGD, USD, ZAR), FastSpring marks the exchange rate as 3.5% higher than it is to adjust for fluctuations. Then FastSpring converts the base price to the customer’s currency with the markup rate.
If the customer uses any other currency, FastSpring marks the exchange rate as 5.5% higher to adjust for fluctuations. Then, FastSpring converts the base price to the customer’s currency with the markup rate.
Price decoration
Price decoration helps display converted prices in a similar style to base prices. For example, if you configure a product to be 39.99 USD, but the conversion rate is 35.03 EUR, price decoration will display it as 35.99 EUR.
Price decoration is only available with gross pricing mode. If you have manually configured pricing for your customer’s currency, that price overrides price decoration.
FAQs
What happens if I disable a transaction currency?
Buyers in that region will see prices in your base currency, and transactions will be processed in that currency.

Yes. You can configure per-currency prices to override automatic conversion.
How quickly do changes take effect after I update currencies?
Changes typically appear in live checkouts within 10 minutes.
Why don’t I see PayPal or other methods in some currencies?
