Set a product tax category
Use the product questionnaire to assign the correct tax code to your product for compliance, or submit a custom code for review.
When you configure a product for the first time, FastSpring displays a questionnaire to help you select the most appropriate tax category. You must apply one tax category to each product.
FastSpring cannot advise you or make the tax selection for you. As long as you select a tax code relevant to your product, you will be in compliance.
Before you begin
Review these specific requirements for VPP sellers and guidance on how to find the correct tax code if the standard questionnaire options do not apply to your product.
- Virtual Product Portfolio (VPP) Sellers: You do not need to configure individual product categories. All VPP products use the default tax code DC020600 (Temporary unmapped digital goods sku – taxable default), unless your default store code is different.
- If the available options do not apply to your product, you can search for the most accurate tax code and submit it to FastSpring Support.
Add or edit a product tax category
Use the following steps to navigate to the product configuration dialog and complete the questionnaire to assign the appropriate tax code.
- In the FastSpring app, navigate to the details page of the product you would like to update.
- Click the Manage Product dropdown (top-right).
Note: If you have already applied a tax category to the product, the link displays the tax code. Otherwise, the link reads Unspecified.
- Click the Tax Code link to open the Product Tax Category modal.
- In the modal, select the most appropriate option for your product.
- Answer the subsequent questions that appear based on your previous selection until a final tax code is displayed.
- (Optional) Select Save as default tax category. FastSpring will apply this code to all current and future products, but you can still edit it on each product’s details page.
- Click Save to apply the category to the product.
