Kakao Pay

FastSpring supports Kakao Pay as a South Korean payment method.

Kakao Pay Availability: This feature is being rolled out in phases and may only be available for some eligible users.

Kakao Pay gives South Korean buyers a secure, convenient, and local way to make payments using their preferred app (e.g., KakaoTalk).

FastSpring offers Kakao Pay as a payment option to South Korean buyers, who can purchase in KRW (South Korean won) and USD (United States Dollar) from all browsers and devices.

The sections below explain how to use Kakao Pay, understand the buyer flow, and review webhooks and common questions. Select a section or use the TOC on the right to jump ahead.

Prerequisites

To use Kakao Pay, the following requirements must be met:

  • The buyer must purchase from South Korea and use KRW or USD as the transaction currency.
  • The buyer must have a Kakao balance. Buyers can transfer funds from their payment source to their Kakao balance if needed.
  • The buyer must have a valid app supporting Kakao Pay (e.g., KakaoTalk) transactions installed.

Customer experience

Here is the FastSpring Kakao Pay experience for buyers:

  1. The buyer selects Kakao Pay as their payment option during checkout.

  2. FastSpring prompts the buyer for personal details (a session is automatically created if FastSpring already has the buyer's details).

  3. FastSpring redirects the buyer to the partner Alipay+ page, which generates a unique QR code.

Warning: The buyer has 10 minutes to scan the QR code and complete the transaction. During this time, the transaction status is Pending payment. If the transaction is not completed within 10 minutes, FastSpring automatically cancels the transaction.

  4. The buyer scans the QR code using their mobile device to complete the payment.

  5. FastSpring displays a completed order confirmation.
