Brazilian Card

FastSpring supports local credit cards, including Elo and Hipercard, as a payment method in Brazil.

Brazilian Card Availability: This feature is rolling out gradually. It may not be available in all FastSpring stores yet.

FastSpring supports local cards in Brazil, including Elo and Hipercard, in addition to Visa and Mastercard. Buyers can complete one-time and subscription purchases using Brazilian real (BRL) with local card processing.

Local processing reduces fees and improves approval rates, offering a smoother, more reliable payment experience for Brazilian buyers.

The sections below explain the prerequisites, buyer flow, and technical details for Brazilian local cards. Select a section or use the TOC on the right to jump ahead.

Prerequisites

To use a Brazilian card for payment, the following requirements must be met:

  • The buyer must complete checkout with Brazil set as the country.
  • The transaction must use BRL (Brazilian real) as the currency.
  • The buyer must enter valid credit card details (Visa, Mastercard, Elo, or Hipercard).

Note: FastSpring determines eligibility by checking the buyer’s checkout country and currency. When both are set to Brazil/BRL, we process the card locally.

Customer experience

Here is what buyers can expect during checkout:

  1. The buyer selects a supported credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Elo, or Hipercard) for payment.

  2. FastSpring displays an IOF fee notice:

    • 0.38% for locally processed cards

    • 3.38% for other payment methods (e.g., PayPal, Apple Pay)

About IOF Fees: Brazilian law requires an IOF fee on all financial transactions. FastSpring processes eligible BRL card payments locally, reducing this fee to 0.38%.

  3. The buyer completes their payment using their selected card.

  4. FastSpring displays a confirmation once payment is complete.

Refunds and returns

Refunds work just like any other card-based payment. Refunds are only available on completed orders. Once processed, the buyer receives the funds back to their card.
